Wise County is a unique part of the DFW metroplex, merging Texas country living with metropolitan expressions.  Colliding all around us is the traditional Cowtown atmosphere of oil rigs, livestock, and lots of open land with progressively developing business mentality of the city.  We believe that God has called us to be the voice of hope to this exact time and place.

Our church has had a long history here in Wise County.  It was established August 31, 1929 as “Fundamental Baptist Church.”  In the beginning their was a group of people who came together with the vision of establishing a church that would give a message of hope to this county.  Tents were set up and week-long meetings were held as God began to do a great work.  The church voted unanimously to call Bro. John R. Rice as the moderator of the church. 

Deacons were appointed in September of that year to purchase a lot on South State Street.  From the very beginning God had His hand on this church.  There were 154 people who accepted Christ and were baptized between August and January, 1930.  The total membership grew to 455 in the following year.  As the power of God’s Spirit was poured out in a little under three years the church membership grew to 736. 

A little over 40 years ago the church moved to its current location off of 287 and 51.  At the time the church was on the outskirts of time.  God blessed and now we have one of the premier locations in Decatur.  A few years ago, God lead the pastor and the deacons to change the long-standing name of the church from “Fundamental” to “Cornerstone.”  This change that enabled the proper message of the church to be given to the community.

When you visit Cornerstone you are likely to encounter members who have been apart of this family for decades serving alongside members who have only been with us for months.  It is truly a unique opportunity to engage the past and the future at the same time. 

As we look into the future, we are currently paying off land that we have purchased.  We currently owe less than $100,000, which we believe God is going to allow us to pay this off over the course of this year.   Over the years God has blessed this church as lives have been changed, families strengthened, and relationships forged. God has used Cornerstone to make a global impact. It is our dream that God would allows us to be a community of Christ-followers with a vintage faith, extravagant love, and outrageous hope for the next 80 years!
